Brush Tool in Photoshop

There are lots of tool which uses the brush tip in Photoshop the tools like the dodge tool, burn tool, sponge tool, history brush tool, healing brush, the clone stamp etc.

So you need to know how to change the size and hardness of the brush tip

The first step is to select the brush tool in the tool box or press “b” in your keyboard

To change the size and the hardness of the brush is select the brush picker in the options bar click on it and then you can start change the master diameter slider to change the brush size and the hardness slider to change the hardness of the brush

Hard brush has a well defined edge and a soft brush has a kind of a blurry edge and you can see some diagrams that marks made by soft brushes and the marks made by hard brushes

then we can close the color picker by clicking in the blank area of the options bar

Now we will see how to change the hardness of the brush while using the brush, the technique is to use the brackets key on your keyboard pressing the “left bracket” key makes a brush tip smaller pressing the “right bracket” key makes a brush tip bigger and if you hold the shift key as you press either of the bracket keys you will vary the softness or the hardness of the brush so shift left bracket makes the brush softer and the shift right bracket makes the brush harder

Now ill show you the output or the difference between the hard brush and the soft brush

Now we will see about one of the new feature in Photoshop cs4 which is brush preview this feature is based on the new OpenGL technology

So now select the brush tool in the tool box and then press alt + right click and then I am going to drag on a Mac press the option key and the same time hold the control key so as I do we can see the representation in the red of exactly what this brush mark is going to be look like and then you can see its going to be opaque in the middle and then fade out at the edges

If I release the mouse we don’t find any marks on the image we have just seen a preview and now we can actually paint here, this is one of the new features introduced in Photoshop cs4 you will be using this new brush preview technique all the time when you are working in Photoshop
